sirajganj district correspondent: Sirajganj district, frequently affected by natural disasters such as floods and river erosion due to the Jamuna River, to reducing the flood vulnerabilities going to start new resilience project Funded by the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) and in collaboration with Oxfam GB, the project aims to enhance community resilience and protect lives in flood-prone areas. The project will be implemented by Manab Mukti Sangstha (MMS) and will focus on disaster risk reduction in three unions (Rajapur, Belkuchi Sadar, and Bardhul) of Belkuchi Upazila in Sirajganj District. Key activities will include Cash for Work (CFW) programs, disaster-resilient livelihoods, installation of double-platform tube wells and raised toilets, and the strengthening of disaster management committees. An inception meeting for the project was held today, July 15, 2024, at the Shahid A. K. Shamsuddin Conference Hall, District Commissioner’s Office in Sirajganj.

The meeting was attended by Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Mr. Gonpoti Roy as the chief guest, along with the Upazila Nirbahi Officer of Belkuchi, District Relief and Rehabilitation Officer, Deputy Director of Social Welfare, and other local administration officials. Executive Director from Manab Mukti Sangstha, Oxfam in Bangladesh, Oxfam in Korea and local government departments representatives were also present. In his address, the Chief Guest, Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Mr. Gonpoti Roy, commended Manab Mukti Sangstha for its longstanding and reputable work in disaster risk reduction in Sirajganj district. He expressed confidence in the successful implementation of the new project and assured continued cooperation from the district and upazila administrations. Other invited guests also expressed their gratitude to KOICA and Oxfam for their support in executing risk reduction projects in the disaster-prone areas of Sirajganj district, extending their best wishes for the success of the new initiative.
